let's discuss this as we wait for al franken. political correspondent dana bash, political reporter rebecca berg and senior white house correspondent jeff zeleny here with me as well. dana, it had been a big question throughout yesterday and into this morning, of what was al franken going to announce? it seems we do know now there was a lot of conversations in front of cameras but also behind the scenes leading up to this. your thoughts? >> yeah. a lot of conversations. we're hearing more and more about the private conversations and pleas from senator franken's colleagues from senator schumer at the top of the democratic hierarchy in the senate on down to senator franken, senator schumer even had senator franken and his wife at senator schumer's apartment to discuss the possibility and even probability of senator franken saying that he will step aside. this happened yesterday. now we are told that is going to happen and senator franken is going to make a speech on the senate floor, you're looking at, in just a few moments, announ

in the case of al franken, here is what we have. he admitted to some of it coming as we have irrefutable photographic evidence. let me explain, actress, model, radio host leeann tweeden has been on the show many times, coming together today with stunning allegations on al franken that he is now admitting to. and now apologizing for. according to tweeden, during a 2006 tour in afghanistan then citizen al franken had written a skit where he kissed tweeden and he wanted to rehearse a backstage, after tweeden refused, she described what allegedly happens next at a press conference earlier today. watch this. >> he just put his hand on the back ofed my head and he matched his face -- it happened so fast, and he mashed his lips againsten my face and he stuck his tongue in my mouth so fast, and all i can remember is that his lips were really wet and it was slimy and in my mind i called him fish lips the rest of the trip, because that is what it reminded me of, i don't know why, but he stuck his tongue down my mouth and i remember i pushed h

untenable situation for al franken. it is clearly a political calculation because the democrats admirably have to say we have moral clarity when it comes to condemning roy moore. >> do they have moral clarity if they do it to achieve a political purpose? >> they are trying to make that contrast clear. here's the larger problem. it is not just the president. it is also about the alleged. six women have come out. incidents occurred primarily before al franken was senator. that's an interesting question about what is the statute of limitations. >> but not all, right? >> the majority of them seem to be before. his radio show, uso tours. i'm unaware of any directly. >> i'll check. >> so that's an issue. the other thing is as we confront this problem, it's a cultural problem as a country. it affects all industries apparently, i do think we want to keep disteupbinct, harvey weinstein, the roy moore bucket. and sort of the al franken bucket and programs the george h.w. bush bucket. to lump them all together does a disservice. >

but al franken, he could not resist, he went on quitter and attacked franken and said that obviously the allegations are credible. when the white house was asked what's the difference between the many accusers against donald trump and the one accusation against al franken. this is what sarah sanders, the white house press secretary said. >> specifically, senator franken has admitted wrong doing and the president hasn't. i think that's a very clear difference. >> it's like i'm glad senator franken is going through an investigation. i think we should have an investigation of donald trump. and when he has faced accusations that are the same, multiple numbers of accusations is ridiculous. i don't know how republicans defend this. >> also he did admit it on the bus. >> and luckily people want to paint that as an admission instead of a joke. i get that. >> what about the 16 women, mark? >> i don't believe anybody's allegation -- hold on one second. i didn't say that, i said i don't believe allegations in the final weeks of a political campaign should be believed automatically. >> let's inv

al franken second 2008. it was not until -- there are estimates that thousands of minnesotans are fighting with isis. minnesotans were killed and i called for a revocation of that gos from people with terrorist organizations and i held a press conference. after talking with community leaders in east africa. al franken comes out and says -- he writes a letter to the department of justice. let me go back. when you talk about isis the cuts that are barbarians. i cannot stress enough how disappointed i have been with president obama's foreign-policy or lack of it in your support of it. doesleading from behind not work. it was a president that said, i will sit down with the leaders of north korea and iran and work everything out. that is not been the case. the world is a more dangerous face today because will not show leadership. it is a president they came from vacation after there were 2 beheadings of journalist and said we do not have a strategy and that is not acceptable. >> the president said in 2012 syria u

when you think about al franken. when you think about judge roy moore and you think about all of these situations, there are different and all have due process. people need to be able to have time to talk about it and process it. we certainly will not be able to do that today and seven minutes on a sunday show. but i do think it's important we end up talking about this yet uncomfortable, having uncomfortable conversations and send this type of behavior is unacceptable. >> let me ask about one other person and if he should be held accountable. that is the president who has had very little to say about the judge roy moore case. when it comes to al franken and that picture, he weighed in on that. the picture of al franken appearing to grope his accuser. the president sent out this week, the frankenstein picture -- on the other hand when they noted that the president faces his own allegations from a bunch of women about him allegedly groping them, this is what a spokeswoman said. >> i think in one case specifically, sena

as we wait to see about al franken and conyers. >> we know about al franken. he's admitted to it. >> when he comes to -- he mentioned the civil court. if his accuser doesn't press charges, she was satisfied with his apology at the time, i don't think that the carte blanche standard. i do do think we have to remember you don't need white people to uphold white supremacy and you don't always need men to uphold pat tri archy. you have women upholding -- we can think about the governor of alabama, i believe these women and tease charges are serious and i believe them, but i will also vote for him on december 12th which is problematic. >> hugh, we got 30 seconds left. how could these guys at this point be effective lawmakers when you have al franken and john conyers still there, you have a possible roy moore who could win this election on december 12th and then be a member of the senate. how could you be an effective lawmaker when you have all of this hanging over your head? it seems to me like it would be a complete distraction. >> different cases, i can't see roy

poor al franken, my god. i feel so terrible. he is so embarrassed, so ashamed, and goodness gracious. give me a break. look, the problem with people and congress is that they believe that they as 1 of 535 members are so important. al franken has obviously lost the thread here. he would be replaced by a democrat. the governor's democrat come at the state is highly democratic. al franken has been an unremarkable senator in every way except for the recent instances with the backside of his constituents. somehow, al franken was to tell us that he must remain in the united states senate, even though it hurts his party, even though it hurts the process of democrats trying to get up at 42018. all that stuff, al franken has lost the tether here. >> dana: he will dig in. what about nancy pelosi, who is on the sunday show yesterday on "meet the press" ." unfortunately for her, it really came out with a bizarre way to defend representative john conyers of michigan. >> and i can't connect the iconic john conyers? this was -- we heard a lot

franken, half of their, as party is in jeopardy and as a party they need to do something about al franken in order to maintain any sense of credibility which i think is already shredding with their voters >> right before we go because we were talking about this, i wanted to move on quickly because we only have about a minute left but i wanted to talk about the victory for the house this week which is passing the tax plan, we know the able to pass the healthcare repeal. what do you think moving forward? can the senate get past the issues we have, they're talking about trying to repeal healthcare again, what do you think will happen from here on out >> i think the senate will come around. first of all from a political point of view, the senate needs to deliver because the republican party is in deep trouble if they don't. the second thing it's is great tax bill. it creates economic expansion, development, creates jobs, gives tax cuts to individuals, it's a fabulous bill. only the problem we have right now is senator johnson from wisconsin and i'm fairly certain he'll come back on board fair
